The VERDENSRUM series is a film and cross-artistic project about cultural icons or metaphors of important world cultures such as Arab, India, China and Japan.

 

The project has its origins in the fascination of Danish media artist and architect Birgit Kjærsgaard for foreign cultures, for their aesthetic and spiritual dimensions. Points of departure for this exploration are designs, figures, signs, gestures, landscapes, cities and the weather.

 

The project is conceived in interdisciplinary terms, and incorporates photography, film, performance, music, and aroma. 

 

Each project is based on research in the respectively culture and involve beside Birgit Kjærsgaard participants from various fields such as dramaturges, composers, choreographers, computer scientists etc. The series has been shown in galleries and exhibition spaces in Denmark and abroad.
